Philosophy

I am passionate about being a genuine and effective therapist! Everyone brings their own perspective about their current concern and I strive to provide the most appropriate therapeutic care to your situation. This is what I love most about my career - I can learn from the individuals and families I work with because your perspective changes the way I deliver a message. I value the diversity of each person, whether it has to do with your problems, your strengths, your relationships; gay or straight, traditional or not, your self-esteem or gender identity. I have had opportunities to work with many people and I honor your differences!

Experience

I have been working with families in the mental health field for seventeen years. I knew at a young age that I was passionate about learning the methods to help people improve their situations. I started working in emergency and crisis. I was a first responder where I helped: families grieve a sudden loss, victims find resources after losing their home in a fire, and counseled homeless individuals in crisis without anywhere to turn. I've worked in child, adolescent and adult psychiatric hospitals. I've worked for human services in child protection, foster care, and adoption. While working with foster care and adoption families I had the opportunity to offer services to a lot of lesbian and gay couples. I've worked with adolescents and their families as a counselor helping the teenagers to find new directions after getting in trouble with the law. I have also helped young children with autism and sensory processing disorder as they were getting additional sensory input support.  I have been certified in evidenced based trauma focused therapy. I also continue to seek out conferences where I can always grow and expand on my skills as a therapist. In private practice I am most focused on effective talk therapy to help people reprocess the traumatic and difficult experiences in their life. I enjoy working with people of all ages! Additionally, I find a lot of joy in teaching our newest generation, so I teach a variety of classes at the University of Denver.

Interests
When I am not focused on my career, I love spending time with my family!! I have a wonderfully supportive husband whom I have been married to for 17 years. We love to travel together with and without our kids, to experience different cultures and customs around the world, as well those in our own state. We have three boys and a really smart Goldendoodle named Siri. We all love to go tent camping and hiking in the summers and skiing and sledding in the winters. When I find a few extra moments, I also enjoy running, hiking, reading and crafting.
